You can not always have a natural focus in the room. You know, the fireplace, the bay window, built in the theme park … this kind of thing. But the room really needs one to make it feel welcome, inviting and relaxing.
When you do not have the construction role, you have your own magnificent big furniture, pieces of artwork, plant arrangements, contrast, painted walls or possibly a magnificent rug with a conversation frame framing it.
Whatever you choose as a focus, it should be the first thing people notice when you enter the room. Whether you have one great masterpiece or a large layout of wall hangings and pictures, make sure that furniture is available so you can see it for free. The light should be directed at either the layer or the spotlight on the ceiling.
Maybe you have an ancient table and a rare collection of china. This will make a wonderful focus, if it is visible and well described. If it's unusual in text, colorful, rare or visually appealing, it can be your focus.
Cabinets full of collectors can be described inside or with spots. If there is a dark cabinet, it should be placed on light walls. Light woods or pale woods would show much better on a significantly darkened wall.
If your focus is a big window with a beautiful view, make sure your furniture is located so that guests can enjoy it. Add an external environmental view to create a drama when the sun goes down.
